135 years at the Omotesando crossing.
A small bookstore connecting books, people, and the city.
Located right next to the Aoyama/Omotesando crossing, Sanyodo Bookstore was founded in 1891 (Meiji 24). Even as the cityscape changes rapidly around us, we continue to welcome our guests at a gentle pace, alongside our iconic mural by Rokuro Taniuchi.
In addition to our 1st-floor bookstore, we feature a gallery on the 2nd floor and a cafe on the 3rd floor. We invite you to spend a rich, relaxing time here—not just "buying books," but experiencing art and enjoying good conversation surrounded by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
Floor Guide
1F Bookstore
We carefully select our inventory, offering not only the latest talked-about releases but also timeless books that we hope will be read for generations, regardless of passing trends. Enjoy the serendipity of discovering that perfect book in our cozy, curated space.
2F Gallery
We host a wide variety of exhibitions related to books and the city, including picture book original artwork, photography, and illustrations. Looking out through the large windows, you can view the Omotesando crossing from this quiet art space, peacefully distanced from the hustle and bustle of the streets below.
3F Cafe
A hideaway space surrounded by bookshelves. It is the perfect place to open a book you just purchased on the 1st floor or to immerse yourself in the afterglow of the gallery. Please enjoy a relaxing and peaceful moment with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Open every Wednesday, 12:00–18:00.
